Educational PhilosophyBefore I was admitted to CSULB I was going to Mt. San Jacinto Community College where originally I was trying to major in Environmental Science. But I knew that it wasn't what I really wanted to do so I decided to switch my major to Art Education.
When I was a little girl I knew I wanted to create art as a career but my parents had always told me that I wouldn't be able to find a career with art but I knew in my heart that that's what I was passionate about. As I moved onto high school I saw the way my high school teachers would teach art in their classes and that is when I started to realize how many more job opportunities there were in the art field. My parents were wrong and I could find a career in what I was passionate about. I was still afraid of heading towards that path so I chose a STEM major instead and as I said before I knew it wasn't choosing what I wanted but what my parents wanted for me. As soon as I changed my major I felt so happy. My art teacher really helped me realize that I wanted to become and art educator. Teaching kids the importance of expressing yourself through art is such an amazing concept. As a teacher you allow students to be able to creatively express their emotions through their work and to think outside the box. I hope that one day I am able to shape my students into amazing artists and that I can show them new methods that could potentially help them down the road. Not only will I want to teach them but I also want to create a bond with my students so that they can feel like they are in a safe environment. |
